A Review of Blue Buffalo Healthy Living Cat Food

April 24th, 2011 by Jeffrey P

My experience with Blue Buffalo Cat Food really started out with a search for a cat food that did not contain chicken or at least one in which chicken was not one of the primary ingredients. Through some trial and error we discovered that our oldest cat has a food allergy to chicken or most likely the chicken by-products most foods contain. Our veterinarian recommended putting him on prednisone and trying out different cat foods with an alternate protein source like seafood, rabbit, venison, etc. The prednisone helped initially but we did not want that to be the long term solution and were determined to find a food that would solve the problem.

We thought it would be easy to find a cat food with an alternate protein source other than chicken, after all there are plenty of seafood based cat foods. However, if you have ever taken a closer look at the ingredient labels on supposed seafood based cat foods, you will notice chicken is still one of the first few ingredients. Heck, in some of the cheaper seafood cat foods chicken is the predominant protein source.

The initial cat foods we tried were all Royal Canin brand. We tried the Royal Canin Green Pea and Venison and the Potato and Rabbit. Both of those foods did seem to help with Spaz’s food allergy however the cats did not seem to care for the taste all that much. After trying the Royal Canin foods for a while we decided to look for a non-prescription diet cat food with an alternate protein source. After investigating the ingredient labels of every cat food carried by our local pet stores we decided upon Blue Buffalo Healthy Living Salmon cat food.

The Blue Buffalo Healthy Living Salmon cat food was the only cat food we could find that did not contain chicken or chicken by-products. Additionally, Blue Buffalo Healthy Living Cat Food contains no artificial flavors or colors, no corn, wheat or soy, all of which have been linked to allergies. Since we started feeding Spaz Blue Buffalo Healthy Living Salmon cat food we have been able to take him off of the prednisone and the food allergy symptoms are now under control.

At the end of the day, I highly recommend Blue Buffalo Cat Food. I give it an even higher recommendation if you cat has been struggling with food allergies or you are in favor of an all natural diet for your cat. If you have any questions for me regarding the Blue Buffalo cat food and my experiences, please leave a comment or contact me through the “Contact Us” page. I would be happy to share more of my experiences with Blue Buffalo cat food.
