Who Moved My Bone?

So after nearly a week of not waiting patiently we finally got the results of the rabies test from the bat Emma nearly made lunch out of.

NEGATIVE!

Rabies testing is supposed to always be a priority according to the Texas Department of Health and Human Services. The bat was captured last Friday, not dropped off at the lab until Tuesday and the results not passed on to us until today. Needless to say I did not sleep that well this week. Emma slobbers a lot and I just knew she slobbered rabies virus all over my face this week while I was sleeping. Animal control and the rabies lab were taking forever and I was convinced I was going to be a statistic and the subject of a CDC press release.

Turns out it was a southern yellow bat and their favorite place to roost is in palm trees…apparently my palm tree. RIP Palm tree.
