Dasuquin for Large Dogs Review – Hip & Joint Health Support

Dasuquin Review

So I mentioned in the last Hill’s j/d review that Emma has also been taking Dasuquinfor Large Dogs for probably the last 12 months. Dasuquinis a joint health supplement manufactured by Nutramax Laboratories, the makers of Cosequin. I feel like Dasuquinis was worth mentioning for two reasons: first, using Dasuquin alone, prior to starting the j/d, clearly helped Emma; Second, I felt like because of that maybe there are some synergies by Emma being on both concurrently and I want to fully disclose everything to produce an unbiased review of the Hill’s j/d.

Our regular veterinarian recommended we try putting Emma on Dasuquin because as I have mentioned previously, after her surgeries she would occasionally act stiff and uncomfortable on days of heavy activity.

A couple of weeks after starting the Dasuquinit seemed like she was having a little less trouble than prior to starting the Dasuquin. It was nothing dramatic or miracle-like but we felt like it was doing some good. We went through a couple of bottles and really did not notice any additional improvement. It was not until we stopped giving it to her for a couple of weeks did we notice it was actually helping her more than we thought. During the two weeks she was off the Dasuquin we definitely noticed a difference in her mobility related issues. So, we put her back on the Dasuquin and she has been on it ever since.

The cost of the Dasuquinis reasonable, well at least in my mind. I usually get it from our vet; it’s around $95 for a bottle of 150 tablets (That is the Large Breed formula, there is also a small to medium dog formula for dogs under 60lbs). I have researched and know it can be purchased online for cheaper but I tend to forget she needs more until the day she runs out. The dosing, for larger dogs, is 2 tablets a day for the first 4-6 weeks and then 1 tablet a day thereafter. So once you get past the initial 4-6 week period, a bottle of 150 will last around 5 months. Some cost analysis (at my vet’s price): About $19 per month or $0.63 per day.

So to wrap things up, I would recommend trying Dasuquin. I feel like this is a product that may have dramatic effects on some dogs and none for others which is why I recommend giving it a try. The timing of this review is good because just this week we started our overweight cat on the new Cat Dasuquin. He has been on Cosequin in the past because he has started developing some arthritic-type symptoms related to his being older and overweight. When I noticed Nutramax was now making Cat Dasuquin, I figured I would give it a try. So I will be starting a review of the Nutramax Cat Dasuquin this week. Stay Tuned!
