Diamond Pet Foods Officially Recalls Cat Food

December 1st, 2009 by Jeffrey P

Effective today, December 1, 2009, Diamond Pet Foods has offically changed their voluntary recall of Premium Edge Finicky Adult Cat and Premium Edge Hairball cat food into a recall. The voluntary recall was issued September 23, 2009.

The recall is because those two foods do not contain enough thiamine and therefore have the potential to cause a thiamine deficiency in your cat. Animals must get all of their thiamine from food consumption. A lack of thiamine or a thiamine deficiency can lead to severe nervous and cardiovascular system diseases and in less severe cases malaise, weight loss, irritability and confusion.

The food in question was distributed to the following states:
Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont, Massachusetts, Connecticut, Rhode Island, New Jersey, Maryland, Delaware, New York, Pennsylvania, Virginia, Alabama, Tennessee, North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia and Florida.

If you purchased the food Diamond states you should take the cat food to the place it was purchased to get a refund. If you still have questions, call 800-977-8797.

Looks like the 151 point quality check boasted by Diamond Pet Foods was one point short.
