So a few weeks back we were at the vet and saw a poster for Hill’s Prescription Diet J/D. A full product description can be found on the Hill’s website. In a nutshell it was developed for dogs with mobility problems regardless of the cause. It contains high amounts of Omega 3 fatty acids from fish oil, glucosamine and chondroitin, and L-carnitine. Our vet told us about all of the great studies they have done on J/D and that she had recently switched her dogs, which are getting older, over to it. I always take the results of those studies with a grain of salt (especially if they are self-funded) but I trust my vet explicitly. So since we have a dog that is getting older and a dog that is a lemon I decided it couldn’t hurt to try it. It does not cost significantly more than the Hill’s Science Diet Advanced Fitness (See Cost Update) they were on however is slightly less accessible since you cannot get it at the chain pet food suppliers. It is coming up on a week now and so far the only thing that I can say for sure is that the dogs and cats love the taste of it. It is smaller bites which Emma the Berner likes and I am guessing the omega fatty acids it contains is what makes it attractive to Spaz (the cat) who quickly cleans up any spillage. I will keep updating this review as the weeks pass on.
