A horse trainer and cowboy from southern Idaho just recently finished a 2,000-mile horseback ride that took him across 5 states. Why would somebody ride 2,000 miles horseback through 5 states? Phil Dawson the cowboy and horse trainer from southern Idaho does it to raise money for children who are in need of an organ donation. While Dawson had still not calculated exactly how much money this trip raised, a similar trip in 2008 he embarked upon generated $20,000 for his non-profit organization.
So you may be wondering, what is it like to take a 2,000-mile horseback ride across 5 states? Well to start quarter-sized calluses on your backside, getting stalked by a mountain lion for several days, rattlesnakes, wearing through 7 sets of horseshoes, losing 40lbs and picking up a stray Welsh Corgi to ride double in your saddle for the last 500 miles.
Sound like fun? Well Dawson is already planning his next trip in which he plans to take up to 20 paying guests to accompany him. For $10,000 you can join Dawson on a 1,000-mile pack trip from Alaska to the North Pole with the proceeds going to benefit children in need of an organ transplant. Details can be found at http://www.americafundraisers.org If it sounds like fun but you cannot afford the $10,000 you can still help by donating money to America Fundraisers through the website.
Phil, my hats off to you…ride cowboy ride!
