Two heads are not always better than one

It used to be every night we would go to bed in our queen size bed, Emma would lie down on the foot of our bed and Bosley would lie down on his dog bed which is right next to our bed on the floor. Less than 5 minutes later Darsey would jump into the bed and lie down next to my wife. Usually less than 5 minutes after that, Spaz would come into the bedroom and lie down on my wife’s pillow. At some point during the night Emma would usually leave the bed to lie on the cool tile in the bathroom and Bosley would get into her place on the bed. Needless to say, things were a little uncomfortable.

We made several attempts to keep the dogs off the bed so that we could have adequate room. It worked, as long as we were awake. As soon as we would fall asleep though, the dogs would get on the bed. In light of the sleeping arrangement situation and the need for an extra bed we decided to purchase a King size bed. Our queen size mattress is comfortable but our new mattress is significantly more comfortable. The first week or so was great; we could have a dog at the foot of the bed and two cats at the top and still be quite comfortable with plenty of room.

It was not long however before our dogs and Wubba discovered the new mattress was quite comfortable and an upgrade from the old mattress. Now our entire zoo, minus Chester, has decided the new bed is the place to be. Emma and Bosley no longer switch places, what’s the point when there is room for both of them now. We are now in a situation much like before except the bed is a little more comfortable than before. We tried kicking the dogs off the bed but they just wait us out. As soon as we doze off they just gently make their way back to the bed.

So if you find yourself in a similar situation, the answer does not lie in a bigger mattress but maybe smaller dogs.
