The American Animal Hospital Association (AAHA) has launched a new online microchip lookup tool, http://www.petmicrochiplookup.org/. The goal of this new online look tool is to make it easier for veterinarian offices and animal shelters/control facilities to reunite lost pets with their owners. You simply punch the microchip number into the online tool and it will tell you which microchip company you need to contact to get the owner’s information.
The downside is not all of the microchip companies are participating yet but these are the ones who currently are: the American Kennel Club Companion Animal Recovery, HomeAgain by Intervet/Schering-Plough Animal Health, Petlink by Datamars and resQ by Bayer Animal Health. The AAHA has stated though they are working with other companies and will hopefully get them to participate soon.
