I realize this list might stir up some controversy because your favorite might not be listed or is listed but not highly enough ranked. If that is the case feel free to state your case in the comments section.
10. Astro (The Jetsons)
I was never really a Jetsons fan but a lot of people in my generation were and still are. Astro was never really the star of the show and was kind of a weenie hence the #10 ranking.

9. Brian Griffin (Family Guy)
I will probably catch hell for this one. I am not a huge fan of the Family Guy show although I know it has quite a cult following. He is getting love because he was born in Austin, TX and is quite possibly the most intelligent dog ever.

8. Blue (Blue’s Clues)
So I am a little old to be in the Blue’s Clues generation. That being said, if you have been alive the past 10 years you’ve probably seen Blue on a lunchbox, backpack, dvd box, poster, pencil box, kite, etc., etc. etc.

7. Huckleberry Hound
What’s not to like about a laid back, southern, blue hound dog? Throw in that he was friends with Yogi Bear and it earns him a #7 ranking.

6. Goofy
The first of two Disney dogs to make the list. He was always a few crayons short of a full box but nonetheless has withstood the test of time. Goofy debuted in 1930’s but his image is still going strong today, just take a visit to Disney World if you don’t believe me.

5. Odie (Garfield)
One of the defining cartoons of the 1980’s era, Garfield is still hugely popular today. I do not ever remember seeing Odie without his tongue hanging out much like my Bernese Mountain Dog Emma. Clearly not as clever as Garfield, Odie was regularly the brunt of Garfield’s jokes and cruel games.

4. Pluto
Pluto is the pet dog of Mickey Mouse and quite the lady’s man. Pluto first appeared in the 1930’s in the short animated film, “The Chain Gang”. Since that time Pluto has had two loves: Fifi, Minnie Mouse’s dog and then later Dinah the Dachshund. Dinah is somewhat of a tramp though as she has been seen with Butch the Bulldog on occasion as well.

3. Clifford the Big Red Dog
Ah, Clifford the Big Red Dog, one of my all-time favorites. Clifford was born in the early 1960’s and helped establish the children’s/young adult publishing powerhouse Scholastic Books. Clifford, to the best of my knowledge, can still be seen on PBS and is still popular with young children. Clifford is truly an icon and a good ambassador for cartoon and real dogs alike. A lot people probably do not know but Clifford was voiced by the late John Ritter for a large portion of the 1990’s and into the very early 21st century before his untimely death in 2003.
2. Scooby-Doo
Scooby-Doo is without a doubt every crack head and druggie’s favorite cartoon dog. This is likely due to the fact that Shaggy, Scooby’s human companion, looked like a pot head. As if that was not enough, some years later the Fun Lovin’ Criminals came out with a song titled, “Scooby Snacks”, which was later explained to be a reference to diazepam aka Valium. Scooby-Doo, an icon for perhaps all of the wrong reasons, but I won’t judge, he still gets the #2 spot.

1. Snoopy
Snoop, Snoop-a-loop. Snoopy is such an icon that a certain formerly successful, pot smoking rapper decided he would steal his name in an attempt to capitalize on some of his fame…nuff said.
Honorable mention – Santa’s Little Helper (The Simpsons), Deputy Dawg, Underdog, Ren (Ren and Stimpy).
