With documented cases in cats and ferrets you had to think it was just a matter of time before a dog was diagnosed with Swine Flu. This week laboratory tests confirmed the H1N1 virus in a 13-year old dog in Bedford Hills, New York. The dog presented with pneumonia-like symptoms and was treated accordingly. Laboratory analysis later confirmed the presence of H1N1. The dog’s owner had also recently been diagnosed with H1N1 and more than likely infected his dog with the virus.
Don’t freak out, just be aware that when you get ill it’s not just your spouse, children and co-workers who you need to protect but your 4-legged friends as well.
